Poetry in Design
Socio-cultural values and subtleties, interaction design, aesthetic sensitivity.
Content of Specialization Course:
Poetry in Design challenged to use a poem as inspiration for a product redesign. The values, qualities, and cultural subtleties within the poem were interpreted through reflection-on-action processes. The poem L’infinito by Giacomo Leopardi was studied, recited, and analyzed (over and over) which translated into SoundStone; a device that encourages the user to take a moment to center oneself during the hectic of everyday life.
Poetry in Design demanded sensitivity towards subtleties and integrating cultural aspects into a design process. The ambiguity present in poetry lead to dynamic and enriching conceptualization processes whilst framed by the poem’s content.
